So I did some research before I left about books that were related to different places we are going or activities we will do for me to read along the way. For the Transatlantic Cruise on the Queen Mary 2 I read two books: A Brilliant Night of Stars and Ice by Rebecca Connellt which was the Titanic disaster from the perspective of one of the third class survivors and the Captain of the Carpathia who responded to the Titanic's distress call. The Carpathia only had one radio operator and he was off duty overnight. He left his ear piece in while he was unlacing his boots and heard the Titanic's distress call and informed the bridge. The Captain ordered the whole boiler crew to get up and the engineer pushed the Carpathia to such speeds that she shook enough to wake some passengers. It was a great book filling in emotions from the facts. I also read The Lost Passenger by Frances Quinn which was about a 1st Class passenger who was in a controlling and financially abusive relationship who realized she could pass herself off as her nanny who was a Third class passenger they hired at the docks when her ladies' maid refused to get on the ship. It was a very interesting story about survivor's guilt and how far you would go to save your child.
