Best things to do in Florence:
1: The Duomo.
The Duomo and its museum are a staple of Florence and Florentine culture, with its glorious interior and beautiful crypts showing centuries of work.
2: The Leonardo DaVinci Museum
This museum shows off the machine-work of Leonardo DaVinci. If you didn’t know, Leonardo DaVinci was a scientist as well as an artist, and made many designs that were centuries before his time. In this museum, they built many of DaVinci’s sketches, so you can try out how they work and get a bit of insight into the genius’ mind.
3: The Uffizi Museum and Galleries
The Uffizzi Museum is a big museum filled with of famous paintings and sculptures, including The Venus, and works by Michelangelo and Rafael. Though I would suggest not bringing really small kids as there is a lot of nudity in the sculptures, as was the style. I also recommend getting the Rick Steeves Europe app, if you are fortunate enough to have devices for everybody in your party, because there is a really great walking tour of Florence, and a tour of the Uffizi museum that we used, and makes quick work of the big museum, only 61 minutes long.
4: The David
The Accademia Gallery has the sculpture of David in it, carved by Michelangelo, and also many other great artworks. It is also home to the Museum of Musical Instruments, which houses a pair of hurdy gurdies and a marine trumpet. If you don’t know what those are, go check out our newest video about Florence at Evi and Anna’s Escapades on YouTube. Again, there is nudity in the sculptures, so beware of that when bringing children.
I would recommend going to Florence, though it is largely a museum based city, so if that isn’t what you like, then you might not like it. I enjoyed Florence, but I enjoyed Rome a bit more because I was reading the Heroes of Olympus series at the time and for a few days my book lined up with where I was. I am also pretty fascinated with Greek/Roman mythology, but anyway, Florence was fun, but it was really rainy, so that didn’t help, though it brought out its charm.
