Back in 2022 when we went to London we had safety meetings about what you should do if you get on the subway but others don't make it on with you or if others got on but you are left behind. I have drilled this repeatedly as it is such a critical travel skill to have. Well today it finally happened. Evi got on the metro, I followed but the door slammed hard into my arm and shut immediately leaving me with a huge bruise and more importantly Anna was on the metro platform all alone. She shouted "Mama!" as we pulled away. I signaled for her to wait and we would come back. The poor little old man nearest the door looked like he was going to cry. I loudly reminded Evi of the plan so he felt better. Then we got off the next stop, switched platforms, texted Anna we were coming and got on the earliest return train. Thankfully we are in Amsterdam not New York so she ate her Stroopwaffel and played games on her phone until we were reunited. Pro travel trip: always have a safety plan!
