After leaving the Highlands we drove to Alnwick to see Alnwick castle which had been the exterior of Howard's in the first two Harry Potter movies. The girls had such a good time in broomstick lessons and taking a tour of the castle. Then we made our way to Bakewell to stay at the cutest cottage. It was so small but managed to have a lounge on the first floor, kitchen and bathroom on the second floor and two small bedrooms on the third floor. We continued to fight the battle of laundry with no dryer. It is harder than you think as you have to really plan ahead! In the Peak district we were able to see Haddon Hall and Robins Hood Stride (featured in The Princess Bride) and Chatsworth House (featured in BBC's Pride and Prejudice). We learned a lot and enjoyed Bakewell. We were able to meet up with a longtime friend from Medicine Hat who lives close by and the girls happily rattled off about all their adventures. We were ready to drop off the car and head further south into England though where new adventures awaited

Did you try any of the Bakewell gingerbread? I loved when I was there.
