The Scottish Highlands

We have been in Scotland before in 2022 for Highland dancing so I wanted to start our trip someplace we've already been. We travelled mostly via private bus and it was easy to enjoy the scenery. The one thing we didn't do was get to the Highlands which is a place I've always wanted to see. To get there I had to be willing to drive...with no other adult with me. I pulled it together, had some anxiety about it but decided that the trip to the Highlands was going to be worth it. I took some solid advice from travelling friends - I got the automatic transmission and navigational system. I've now been driving here for 3 days and have had some near misses (not my fault!) and also had some fun on the road. We have driven along the edge of Loch Ness to Urquhart Castle - which would have been lovely had it not been my first day off a main road and very busy with traffic. Yesterday we travelled to the gorgeous valley of Glencoe. Our eyes could barely process the beauty surrounding us. It was a beautiful drive with my equally appreciative companions who were also stunned by the scenery. I know I am lucky to live in a beautiful country but there are some places in the world that just are worth the trip to see for their epic splendour and Glencoe is definitely one of them!
